The small intestine is a part of the digestive system that plays an important role in breaking down and absorbing nutrients from food. It is located between the stomach and large intestine, and it's where most of the chemical breakdown and absorption of nutrients takes place. The small intestine is approximately 6 meters long and is divided into three sections: duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. It receives partially digested food from the stomach and mixes it with enzymes and bile to further break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The nutrients are then absorbed through the lining of the small intestine into the bloodstream.
